Update Maximenu to version 8 from version 6 or 7

Hello,
i bought MaxiMenü with the param PLugin and updtate it now to Version 8.
I do it with the internal installer from Joomla, I do not realize that now the plugin and the changes of my self are not working anymore, now I have a standard menü.
I didnot find any hint at the Joomla extensions site before I update to create a backup or that the new version is not compatible with the plugin, so I clicked to update without a backup....

So my question is how to get the param. plugin to work?
Do I have to pay for thenew version?
Is it possible to restore it to the Version 7?

yes you can restore the version 7 by installing over the existing one

Another - as I think fundamental - question:
If having a site running without problems with a Maxi Menu V7 why should I update? Are there really any reasons if one doesn't want to use the new features, respectively needs them?
