Problems on version 1.1.1 PRO
3. I have checked, and yes this is how it works :
- if the canonical tag is added on the article, tag or category, it is used
- else it checks if there is one in the menu item
This is the normal behavior

This is very logical. However this is not how it worked in my case.
With articles option activated, and with a canonical tag (a URL to another website) setup only in a menu item's custom canonical tag, the menu item's own URL appeared instead.
With articles option deactivated the menu item's custom canonical tag (the URL to another website) appeared correctly.
Nevertheless, for now I can get by without activating the articles option, since all my articles are one to one correlated with unique menu items.

Excellent!
The most important parts are fixed and we now have a true working canonical tag plugin. Yes, Joomla's own canonical tag placer (system - SEF) is actually a "pseudo"-canonical tag placer.
Now the canonical tag appears in the root page too and the ?lang=" is gone.
The glitch of a menu item's custom canonical tag being ignored, when the "Article" option is "On", is still present.
As an answer to a previous question, I have the "Add Tags Automatically" to "On", and the "Remove Default Canonical Tags" to "On".
I only wish that there can someday be a button in the plugin options which when clicked would automatically fill all the empty menu items' Canonical URL fields with their default SEF value, instead of having to visit and click the "Auto" button in each and every menu item.
With those fields empty, a page with a url like www.example.com/index.php?option=com_con...cle&id=34&Itemid=224 will have a canonical tag of that URL instead of its SEF URL.
