first of all, you shall not have both url pointing to the same page : this is typically a duplicate content
you must choose the relevant one and use a htacess redirection

then put the url of the relevant page in the canonical tag (the one you want to be your homepage)

I am sorry I dont understand what you are suggesting.

My programmers buddy helped me with this and now I have the .htaccess redirect working.
