Slideshows not working on mobile

The weird thing, though, is that the images are only blocked if the article is not attached to a menu item. I can't see any rules doing that, can you?

Thanks,
Matt

no I can't
try to rename your htaccess file (to disable it) to see if it has something to do with it
warning, here we are making some hard testing with the htaccess and this can break the website until you put it in place again. I hope that you have some skills for this :)

Ok, I tried renaming the htaccess file, and the article disappeared completely, both on desktop and mobile. Instead I got: Not Found

The requested URL /category-holds/1557-slideshow-test-2-2 was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The homepage, on the other hand, was fine.

When I restored htaccess and reloaded, the article reappeared.

Thanks,
Matt

this is normal, as I'm trying to explain this is "hard testing"
if you remove the htaccess, you will no more have any rewrite rule nor seo

sorry to say that I don't know why your slideshow does not show the images on mobile devices

Your mention of seo gives another clue: when I go to the article (without disabling htaccess) using the direct index.php link rather than the sef url, the slideshow shows up just fine on mobile. Could sef somehow be interfering with the slideshow?

Thanks,
Matt

I think we may be looking at some hellish combination of factors. Here is some more info:
  • Using latest Joomla, v3.6.4. -- we didn't notice this problem before the latest upgrade, but it could be that we just didn't notice, or that something in the newest Joomla broke something.
  • Using standard built-in Joomla SEF, set in the Global Config.
  • Using the standard, Akeeba Adming Tools-created htaccess.
  • Using all Template-Creator CK templates, including one created just for mobiles.
  • Using the Simple Mobile Detection plugin to direct mobiles to the mobile template.
