yes some options to style it would be cool, for now you can do that simply using css

Can i place on a page the shortcode in a module? So i can place the TOC where I like, and not in the article itself?

it will work only with modules that passes the content data to the plugins, it may work in a "mod_custom" module but not each module type
Note that it will work wihtin the module, I mean that it will list the text from the module, not the text from the article where you load the module
