Blog element - How To Change date format from default?

The default format for article date on the Blog element is yyyy-mm-dd see screen shot?
Is it possible to change it to European ie dd-mm-yyyy
How can I do that?
Also is it possible to set a PHP date format ie l, jS F, Y
