Hi, I use the pro version in a catalogue site, made with Phoca cart.

If I enable the automatic creation of canonicals, the same product belonging to several categories is displayed with different urls.

Example:
Main product
www.lanuovasartoria.it/atelier-donna/10-abd1

Other category links referencing the same product.
www.lanuovasartoria.it/atelier-donna/2-abito/10-abd1
www.lanuovasartoria.it/atelier-donna/2-abito/3-corto/10-abd1
www.lanuovasartoria.it/atelier-donna/9-colore/13-bianco/10-abd1

This leads to duplicate content.

I ask for your opinion. Is it better for SEO to deactivate the automatic generation of canonicals, letting google choose the best one?

this is a complicated question
in this case, do you know what would the relevant url ? the one that should be used as canonical

if you don't use a canonical tag at all, you still have some duplicate content. THe best would be to manage the situation and add the correct canonical tag

I have never used Phoca Cart but may be if you guide me I can try to check how to implement the canonical feature

The canonical tag appear correct but the document root is missing
