Thanks for the file.

I'm not sure what the change did or should do. The only change I noticed was that I no longer see subitems which are not dependant on the parent, regardless of the setting "yes" or "no"

However the outcome is the same.

I'll try and be a bit more elaborate in my explanation this time.

I have a news page, on this News page I show a blog view of all the categories under News.

Let's say there is Football News, Basketball News and Hockey News. This News page shows the 5 latest articles within all these categories.

On the side I have a menu with the sub categories, so the menu looks like this
- Football News
- Basketball News
- Hockey News

Each of which are blog views of the articles within these categories.
As soon as I either:
Click one of the categories in the menu
or
Directly click on one of the article titles to open up that specific article

The category menu on the side will show up empty.

Now I don't see childs of other parents when they are not active, good, but I can't see childs of actual childs. I have a menu like the next example:

-item1
-item2
--subitem1
--subitem2
---subsubitem1

First level (item1 and item2) is in one module and now, when I open item1, not see subitems from item2 in other lateral module, ok, perfect. When I open item2 I see subitems in lateral module, perfect, but the problem is that I can't see subsubitem1 if subitem2 is not active.

Thank you and regards.

@pablo : of course subsubitem1 will be displayed when subitem2 is active. I thought that was what you requested.

@gvaneijk : does this work with the native joomla menu ?? your request looks like a strange behavior because relation between menu items are related to the parent/child relation and not category/article

I noticed I made one mistake, where I didn't set my category menu to show on the subcategory items.

So now when I click the category side menu, the menu still shows up, which is awesome.

However when I click an article title link they do not show up at the side.

I just looked at my breadcrumbs aswel and hearing you say this now, you might be right. I'm not sure if this is an issue with your menu module at all. But you might be able to help me fix this.

When I look at the News page, the breadcrumbs are:
Home / News

When I look at a subcategory via the categorymenu on the side, the breadcrumbs are:
Home / News / Football News

When I click an article title (both on the news or subcategory page) the breadcrumbs are:
Home / Football News / Article Title

It removes the "News" part from the breadcrumbs and thus the URL. This is causing the problem, do you happen to know how to fix this problem?

I think that the solution is show all child items since the "Start level" + 1.
