Height of menu items in vertical menu

Hello.
Is it possible to vary the height of the menu items in a vertical menu? For example, looking at this page: www.acdnsw.org.au/testnewdesign/index.ph...cle&id=92&Itemid=161 , at the vertical menu on the left, you can see that each item in the menu is 2 lines high, but some only need one line. How can I collapse the smaller ones to one line?

Also, if you hover over the item "Current Campaigns", you will see that there is a gap between the level1 item and the level2 item. Is this because I have made the background of the ul white, and only coloured the li's? I have attached my css code for the menus.
