First item in a dropdown cannot be chosen

I've hardcoded <loadmodule= etc...> a module into my template and utilize a Drop-down menu.
I use Categories and it looks really nice, BUT I cannot "choose" the top item in the menu. Is there
a solution to this without having to create a placeholder?

I have checked but there is no Maximenu CK module loaded in the page
Please check and tell me where I should see it

As I mentioned, it has been embedded in the template .php by calling the module. The dropdown menu is located below the page header.
