Top level links not working

Hi, I have installed Maximenu CK 10.1.8 Pro and created a menu, placed on position defined by my template (using latest Template Creator CK). Then, I created a style based on EFFECT12-preset (I modified some colors/fonts, nothing serious) and applied it to my menu. The menu opens and the all submenus work. However, the top-level menus do not.

I have attached screeshot. When I click any of the links, nothing happens. If I hover over any of them, the sub-menu links work fine.

Any ideas or suggestions how to track the error?

Thanks!

The site is installed on a local server without external access. I will make a copy on public server, and let you know.

In the meantime, is it possible that this has to do with z-index ? e.g. the "circles effect" comes in front of the menu? How can I send it back? (Just a thought)

Thmaks and Regards

Hi! I have installed the website on snf-895890.vm.okeanos.grnet.gr/index.php/en/  It's a temporaty server, feel free to play with it (even break it).
The links HOME and all links under DEPT. should lead to a normal joomla article. The links under Dept. work. fine. The HOME link does not. Please, have a look and let my know if you find what's wrong.

Thank you
(Attached, a screeshot of the menu structure to indicate which links should open a page)
