Styles only applied to linked menu items

I have used the style editor to style my menu.

The font colour and size are set on the Menu bar tab (see screenshot).

However, the set size and colour are only applied to menu items which link directly to some Joomla component item. Menu items which are used as headings are not rendered in this style (see screenshot). I have looked for places where I non-linked menu items must be set, but I can't see any location other than the one I have shown.

Please let me know if I am missing something! It seems obvious to me that all menu items should be rendered the same way, whether they are linked or are only headings for a sub-menu. At the very least, there should be a way of styling the non-linked menu items as well.

I have used some css as a temporary solution to this problem. However, there are other aspects of the rendering that are still wrong. The height of the menu item's block is too small, and the padding is different from the other menu items.

I would be most grateful for a solution to this problem!
