Parent icon on menu item level not shown?

I have a single menu item where I want to show a parent icon (a lock for the login module, which is the sub item). On the menu item pane Maximenu CK Styles I have set Icon type to Image and I have selected a background image and a size - but it is not shown. The menu item is of the type Menu heading.

you shall be able to setup an image (joomla native feature) in the menu manager >> item >> edition >> options >> image

Well -. I managed to get the image on as background, but I would like some more space between the image and the menu item text - howto ? It is the menu item "Log på" and the lock
