in the effect options you got a new option "add close button to submenu". set it on YES and the behavior on "click"
then tell me how it works

for this you can use some CSS on the .maxiclose element, "text-indent" to hide the text, and ":after" pseudo class to add the "X"

but this has nothing to do really with maximenu, this is just some css design
