How to put | between menu items

Hello!

I am struggling to figure out how to make a | or other icon appear between menu items on a horizontal navigation bar. I have tried doing different CSS, but I can't find anything that works.

You can see that right now, the | is showing below the menu items.

I would like it to be HOME  |  237 TEST  |  TOUR LISTING TEST  |  IMAGE TEST

I did attempt to use the borders and could get it to appear after or before, but it didn't show correctly, either. I have a couple of other clients who I have in the pipeline that will need a bullet between them or an icon. I used to use artisteer and was spoiled that it was an option I could choose from in the generator.

you can use a border, or a background image in the styling interface of the menu
I suppose that you are asking about Template Creator CK ? you did not mention it in your request

what was the problem when using a border ?
