Want portrait image big on small screen

Explanation: on the website are landscape and portrait images.
My client wants the following to happen when watched on a smartphone: the landscape images scale to the maximum width of the smartphone, the portrait images scale to the height of the smartphone.
Is this possible?
Or should I ask the developer of the template?

The template I am using is Joomspirit 102, the slideshow is CK slideshow.

What I try to say: if I put a portrait images om the website on big screen, it is located on the position I give it in the slideshow: left, center, right, etc.
The height of the picture is limited to the fixed height of the template. Even if the picture is higher.
When I look at the website on my smartphone, this image stays in the content box in stead of getting bigger then the standard height.
The content bos stays horizontal instead of vertical (for portrait pictures).
Do you think this is possible with the CK Slideshow?
