How to stop menu from closing on rollover

I am using the menu accordian top open a 3-level menu structure on rollover. The top level menus opens great on rollover, however they close immediately if my mouse rolls over it again (or gets near it, they seem to be very slippery). Is there any to make rolled over menus items stay expanded and only close/contract if you rollover another top level menu item? This is making the menu very slippery and hard to navigate.

I have already checked this a little but I have to work deeper on it.
then the problem is that for the joomla 2.5 version it will not be possible because the accordion behavior is managed directly by the mootools accordion effect
I will be able to improve this in the joomla 3 version perhaps
