Overlay modules or wrappers

Hello, is it possible to overlay modules or wrappers to create the effect of the menu overlaying the slideshow as on this site templatic.com/demo/apex/

I can get the slideshow to overlay the menu and logo by formatting a negative value to the outside margin for the slideshow but how can I get the logo and menu to overlay the slideshow and how can I get the background of the menu and logo to be semi translucent?
