Please can you confirm that when I edit the Layouts of either Article or Blog (see image below), this only changes the CSS and does not create or edit any PHP files?

Hi
this creates the overrides in the "html" folder of your template, these are PHP files of the joomla layout

Thanks but have a couple of supplemental questions.

1. At what point are these files and folders created? Is it on initial creation of the template itself or once I edit anything in relation to Joomla articles?
2. If I make any changes to the articles or blog in the Template Creator, is it just the CSS that changes or does it also make changes to any php files?

1. they are created when you do "action >> copy / apply changes"
the files are copied each time you update the template
but you can add your own files in the folder, because the folders are never removed. then it allows you to create your "layout override" (which is different from "template override")

2. I don't understand. I can not tell you what changes you shall do ... I don't know what you want to do. This is in your scope ;)
You can make any css change in the "custom css" area

What I am looking to do is combine Template Creator with a content layout called EasyLayouts. Basically my idea is do all the CSS in Template Creator but organise the layout in EasyLayouts.

EasyLayouts uses the concept of rows to build the structure of content pages and you can apply CSS classes to these rows. You can also embed rows within other rows.

If I am totally honest, I haven't quite mastered this yet and got into a right pickle yesterday. However I reinstalled Joomla, Template Creator, my template garbarit then made a copy of it and it's the copy which I am just about to work with. If I bugger up, I can then quickly delete everything and start again on a fresh copy of the template.

ok, then if you want to manage the CSS, you can do that easily in the template using Parameters >> Custom CSS
you can also directly write into the file
templates/TEMPLATE/css/custom.css

hope it helps
