Maximenu_CK Joomla 2.5.9 not using default css

I am using maximenu 6.1.20 on Joomla 2.5.9 to generate a simple 2 item horizontal menu. On my local wamp server all is well but on my online hosting service the menu has no formatting and shows the 2 selections as one word. Firebug shows the following error: "NetworkError: 500 Internal Server Error - taylorbennion.com/modules/mod_maximenuck...=maximenuck_gym_achv "
I don't know what this error is telling me.

yes you can't access the file
taylorbennion.com/modules/mod_maximenuck.../css/maximenuhck.php
where all styles for maximenu are stored. Check your server, this is a rights issue from CHMOD or htaccess.

All of the files, as well as the modules directory, were set to CHMOD 777 which threw an error. Changed to 755 and all is well.
