Menu does not display correctly when user logged in

I am having a very strange problem with a menu not displaying correctly when a user is logged in.
It displays correctly for the non-logged-in Guest user group, but when a user logs in to the Registered group the menu styles do not appear to be rendering correctly:
the menu items should be displayed horizontally, but when logged in, the menu items display as a vertical unordered bulleted list.
I can't think why the rendering should be different for logged-in or not-logged-in users?
The site is running Joomla 4.4.2 and Maximenu CK Pro 10.0.12
