hi, sorry but maybe I was not clear.
the problem is that the dark is blue instead of having the images, as attached.

ok, as for before, the blue color does not come from the plugin
the code in cause is in your page

.mod-overlay > .custom-module::before, .uk-overlay-area, a.h-effect:hover::before

I don't know what this comes from, you shall check in your template ...
may be that you have also updated something else, and not only the image effect plugin ?
