There may be a problem in the new Template Creator.
If I put some code in the Parameters > Custom code textarea and then hit "VALIDATE" the code disappears. No matter what code I put in. Even your own "<?php echo 'mycode'; ?>" sample code is deleted immediately when "VALIDATE" is hit.

when you say "new", was it working for you before ? with which version ?

I did not try this in previous versions. So I only know this does not work in the latest version 3.3.17.

I have tested again by my side, it works
So I suppose that this is related to a server configuration issue. Are you on joomla 2.5 or 3 ?
