print/email icon dropdown issue with no bootstrap

Regarding the dropdown box for Print/email for articles:

With Bootstrap:

It seems that TC is creating a (very small) button instead of a dropdown box with icons and not showing the 'icon-cog' or the 'caret' icons
The 'dropdown' is also opened by default with no way of closing it (since the dropdown doesnt exist.

That makes the button disappear, yes.

But isn't it supposed to create the button for a dropdown menu containing 'Print', 'email' and 'edit' ?

looks like it is trying to re-create a button like the Bootstrap one (cog wheel icon and caret icon) that opens out with the 'print' 'email' and 'edit' options (which is what I would LIKE it to do).

From what I remember, this is what happened in joomla prior to 3.x (when it integrated bootstrap)

Possibly, it is a conflict when you do not add bootstrap to the template (as it is in this case), yet joomla itself is integrating bootstrap.

not if you don't use bootstrap
This code is for bootstrap, if you don't want to load it, I will not emulate the same features (this has no sense for me )

the source code has nothing to do with the load of the bootstrap files, it is generated by the com_content layout (which by default wants you to use bootstrap)

I manage this in css here to avoid to create a template override which would be a pain to maintain
